It’s so touching to see people joining together to make one person’s dream come true!
A 6-year-old girl with stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer named Lexi Barnett, or #LoveForLexi in the Twitter community, finally got to meet her idol, Taylor Swift, over the weekend.
After being denied by record execs at a recent Newark concert to meet Swifty, a Penn State University student-run philanthropy organization — known as THON — took matters into their own hands!
Beginning Friday, the PSU online community launched a viral campaign that started with a Facebook page, then made it’s rounds through Twitterspace with tweets directed at Swift, reading:
“@taylorswift13 A little girl named Lexi recently went to one of your concerts. She is very sick and would LOVE to meet you #loveforlexi”
Handy-dandy instructions from the Facebook group’s organizers also encouraged participants to post heart-wrenching YouTube videos of Lexi, like this one, on Taylor’s page.
Although the 3,981 people actively Facebooking, YouTubing, and Tweeting couldn’t catch the attention of Taylor directly, they did catch the attention of Penn State student Nikki Rafferty who had “meet-and-greet” passes for Saturday’s show.
This story and others like it continually amaze us, not only because it is an example of the power of social networking, but because it is an example of the inherent kindness that exists in the human heart!
Thanks to the generosity of a fellow fan and the THOUSANDS of users who took only a minute of their lives to update their status, tweet, or leave a comment on behalf of Lexi, a precious little girl’s dream came true! So amazing!
