Diabetic Teen Gets By With A Little Help From A Dog

Diabetic Teen Gets By With A Little Help From A Dog

guide dog

13 year old Ashley Bogden loves to do all those things a teen should, however she has to be careful because of her diabetes.

She was diagnosed with type 1/insulin-dependent diabetes when she was 10 years old. She has to make sure to check her blood sugar many times a day in order to check that it does not get too low.

The Bogden family found out about the program Dogs4Diabetics, which matched trained dogs with diabetic people. The dogs were trained by scent to notice when their owners blood sugar was getting low.

When the dogs notice the low blood sugar they do something to let their owner know such as a nudge, a sound or pick up a cloth that is connected to their collar.

Ashley just recently got her dog, Bria in March and the family is adjusting to life with the pup!

Ashley is happy because she does not only have someone looking out for her, but she got a best friend too!!

Awww, this is great!!!
