Former CBS anchor Josh Elliott is divorcing his wife of nearly 10 years, ABC7 Eyewitness News anchor Liz Cho! Don’t expect an amicable split from these two, though! New details reveal that the divorce is extremely messy!
For those who don’t know, here is a brief breakdown of their story! Josh and Liz met while working for ABC in 2012 and got engaged after two years of dating. They got married in July 2015. Flash forward to June 20, 2025, and he filed for divorce. According to Connecticut court papers obtained by Page Six on Sunday, Josh claimed that their relationship “has broken down irretrievably.” The sportscaster demanded a “dissolution of the marriage” and for “an equitable distribution of all property, both real and personal.”
Things quickly became hostile between them afterward. Liz responded to Josh’s complaint on November 6 and filed a cross-complaint against him. She also stated their marriage “has broken down irretrievably.” And that’s the only part these two can agree on in the divorce! Everything else, they aren’t on the same page about! And what’s more? It appears Liz doesn’t think her estranged husband was faithful to her during their marriage!

Per Page Six, the former World News Now anchor requested “copies of written correspondence, emails, cards, WeChat messages, Facebook messages, social media messaging, instant messaging, telephonic text messages, transcribed voicemail messages or any written forms of communication” between Josh and “any person, other than the defendant, with whom [Elliott] have or have had a romantic and/or sexual relationship, from July 11, 2015, to the present.”
Whoa!
Josh, however, objected to the request on the “grounds that the time frame of the request for production is unreasonable, unnecessary, harassing and not likely to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence.” Liz also asked for “monies spent for the benefit of any person with whom you have had a romantic and/or sexual relationship, other than the defendant,” “property given or transferred by you to any person with whom you have had a romantic and/or sexual relationship, other than the defendant,” “monies spent for your benefit by any person with whom you have had a romantic and/or sexual relationship with, other than the defendant.”
There’s more! She also wants to inspect records, including “copies of all monthly checking account statements,” from January 1, 2020, through the date of his response, and “all documents which reflect your travel, personal and business,” including “travel agency invoices, travel agency itineraries, hotel, motel, motor inn, or inn receipts and bills, airline receipts and bills, limousine or car service receipts and bills.”
Josh was fired from CBS in 2017 after announcing on air that he was stepping down to take a larger role at the company — allegedly blindsiding all of his bosses. He has not worked much since, but he is reportedly in the running to join Gayle King and Nate Burleson on CBS Mornings now. Liz has now asked for “communications in connection with the search for any employment,” including “social media communications, text message and emails, offers of employment, calendars [and] agreements.” Josh shut down all these requests, as well.
While her requests seem like a lot, a source close to the former couple insisted to Page Six that it’s “standard” in the proceedings:
“This is standard in a divorce. Her lawyer is doing a thorough document request. The documents she is requesting are standard.”
This insider also stressed there is no evidence Josh had a relationship with anyone during his marriage to Liz. Umm, well, it looks like the journalist strongly suspects he may have cheated! Why else would she go through the trouble to collect his texts, emails, and whatnot?
A few months later, on January 29, Liz filed a motion for contempt against Josh over their marital home in Connecticut. They apparently continued to live together amid the divorce, despite how nasty it had already gotten. However, Liz claimed in the court docs that Josh arranged for a moving truck to come to the residence while she was on vacation with her daughter from a previous marriage on January 19 and stole from her, including jewelry and their dogs! What!
She claimed that he moved a “significant amount of furniture and furnishings from the marital residence,” and their “two Portuguese water dogs,” who were “supposed to stay in the marital residence.” Liz allegedly requested that her personal property be returned, but Josh ignored her. The court documents stated:
“On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, [Cho] realized that she was missing a valuable watch and earrings from her jewelry bag. As [Elliott] is the only other person who had access to the missing watch and jewelry, [Cho] believes [Elliott] is in possession of such personal property.”
Liz alleged his actions are a “willful violation” of the court’s orders and requested that he be sanctioned. Defending Josh, the Page Six source said he was the one to take care of the dogs and that he only took “a small amount of furniture.” The Sports Illustrated journalist responded to her filing, denying her request. He also called her accusations “false and inflammatory,” adding:
“[Cho] alleges [Elliott] ‘ransacked’ and ‘abandoned’ the marital residence — claims that are patently false and intended to annoy, harass and intimidate [Elliott]. [Elliott] did not ransack the marital home. He did not damage the property. He did not render the residence uninhabitable. He removed limited personal property and furnishings so he would have a safe haven from [Cho’s] escalating and erratic behavior direct at not only [Elliott], but his minor child as well.”
Josh continued in a separate filing to allege Liz created “a hostile environment” for him and his kid:
“[Elliott] removed only limited furniture items and furnishings, many from the basement, solely to furnish a new residence after removing himself and his child from a hostile environment created by [Cho]. All property remains intact and subject to equitable distribution.”
When it comes to the allegation that he stole her jewelry, Josh fired back:
“Perhaps most egregious is [Cho’s] baseless accusation that [Elliott] stole her jewelry. This allegation is made without evidence, without corroboration and without even a good-faith attempt to verify the truth.”
He then accused her of “monitoring and listening to [Elliott’s] private phone calls; rifling through [Elliott’s] personal belongings and closet; leaving the marital residence for extended periods without communication despite the presence of two dogs requiring daily care” and more. Josh is asking the court to deny her motion for contempt.
At this time, Liz hasn’t responded. They have a court hearing scheduled for March 20.
