Giant 754 pound tuna sells for record amount in Japan

Really big tuna.

A 754 pound tuna sold for a record 32.49 million yen, or nearly $396,000, in Tokyo on Wednesday.

Imagine reeling that one in on your rod!

The ginormous fish was sold at the first auction of the year at the world’s largest wholesale fish market.

The tuna was bought by a pair of entrepreneurs who own a sushi restaurant chain in and around Tokyo.

The whopping price tag translates into about $526 per pound!

Good luck finding people to pay that.

It might not be that hard though, with the Japanese being the worlds largest consumer of seafood.

Fatty bluefin or “o-toro” here, is the the countries most sought after tuna and can sell for about $24 a piece at high-end sushi restaurants.

Not a pound, a piece!

We’ll stick to the california roll.
