Heartbreaking.
Hundreds of animals were separated from their owners in the tornadoes that swept through Alabama that killed more than 300 people.
Hundreds more most perished as the multiple twisters cut a deadly path through several Southern states.
Hundreds of animals have ended up at the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter. Many of them are puppies separated from both their mother and owner.
The shelter’s assistant director, said: “These dogs are so stressed out, many of them are scared and they just don’t want to come up to the front of the cage. They’re just as traumatized as the humans.”
She said she has found the days since the storms struck to be especially emotional.
She has been heartened, however, by the mounds of supplies that have been donated and the volunteers who come to give their time.
