Nicky Schwarz, ten, found out that his California elementary school was hosting a competition where if the students read for a combined half-million minutes, the principal would eat fried worms.
So he circulated a petition and got his friends and classmates involved in trying to find an alternative to the event.
And it worked! The stunt was called off!
For showing that we should be compassionate towards all living things, Nicky was honored with a PETA Kids Compassionate Action Award.
PETA sent him a framed certificate, a letter of recognition and a bagful of PETA goodies.
Way to go Nicky!
It really shows that sometimes it really only takes one person to implement change.
