Dog Survives 53 Days In Desert After Deadly Car Accident

This is so sad but so amazing at the same time.
There was a car accident in the Nevada desert and Barbara Bagley was critically injured, her husband was tragically killed and her dog, confused and in a panic, ran from the site.
This woman spent 53 days recovering from an injury, reeling in the loss of her husband and waiting for news of her missing dog, Dooley.
She said:

“I would think about Dooley constantly. There were TV commercials with dogs that made me think about him and cry. He’s just the sweetest dog.”

The crash was just them, no other car, and not only her husband died, but their other sheltie dog, Delaney, was killed as well.
Barbara got a concussion, broke several ribs, shattered her wrist and punctured two lungs.
Her husband didn’t die in the crash, he died in the hospital, the same day volunteers found the remains of what they thought was Dooley.

“It was a horrible day for me. But something inside me told me Dooley was still alive out there. I wasn’t 100 percent sure, but I didn’t grieve for Dooley like I did for my husband and our other dog.”

Over the next few weeks there were several reported sightings of a “lassie-dog” in the desert.
Eventually a friend of hers helped a volunteer track down the dog and grabbed him.
Barbara arrived on the scene a little later. The volunteer said:

“Barbara got next to us and said three times, `You think he’ll remember me?’ When Barbara opened the door and looked at him, she said, `My beautiful boy, my beautiful boy, you’re home.’ Oh, boy, all of us cried. I knew his adventure in Nevada was over. I also knew he and Barbara could start healing together.”

Some time later Dooley fell asleep on Barbara’s lap as they drove home.
She said:

“I was overjoyed that I was going to have him back in my life. I think he felt the same about me.”

While in the desert, Dooley survived by eating roadkill and scavenging animals the desert had already claimed like birds and even a dead coyote.
His weight went from 44 pounds down to 20 but he has since put weight back on.
Barbara Bagley is still grieving for her husband but Dooley’s return helps.
