Just when it looks like the world of sports is taking a step forward in accepting homosexuality, it takes two GIANT steps back!
Jay Briscoe is a pro wrestler for the Ring of Honor, and his profile describes his am “controversial” and “outspoken,” and based on some homophobic tweets he sent out we’d have to say they nailed it.
When Delaware recently passed a bill for marriage equality, the wrestler took to Twitter to share his thoughts, saying:
“The Delaware Senate passed a bill yesterday that allows same sex couples to get married. If that makes you happy, then congratulations!!!!!”
Nothing wrong here, right? Except he decided to follow-up that tweet with this:
“… try and teach my kids that there’s nothing wrong with that and I’ll f**king shoot you”
Ugh! We can barely handle how disgusting this is!
After receiving some much deserved backlash for his remarks, Jay not only deleted the tweets, but he also took down his entire account!
He also attempted to do some damage control and apologized for his comments at a ROH event this weekend, saying he was simply caught up in his character and that he doesn’t preach hate in his household.
Regardless of the role he plays, there’s NO excuse for making comments that are homophobic while also promoting violence.
