Serena Williams Takes A Second Shot At Steubenville Statement!

serena williams second statement steubenville rape apology situation interview comments life sad
It seems like a lot of people are getting caught saying unsavory things these days, and are having to make multiple attempts at clarifying or apologizing! Serena Williams is one of those people, as she originally made statements about the Steubenville rape case that sounded an awful lot like she was blaming the victim for the atrocities!
Here’s what she’s saying now:

“I am deeply sorry for my insensitive and misinformed comments. It was not my intention to cause the victim and her family any additional pain. But I did, and I am sorry. I am grateful to them for the opportunity to personally apologize, and I am humbled by their strength, grace, and forgiveness.
“I also want to extend an apology to the millions of sexual assault victims in America whose pain could have been compounded by my inappropriate remarks. Rape and all forms of sexual assault are completely unacceptable, no matter the circumstances. Sexual assault perpetrated against women and men is never acceptable and *never* the fault of the victim.”

Dang, why couldn’t she just have had this viewpoint from the get-go!
It’s disturbing to us how many people apologize just for getting caught, or as soon as the backlash starts. We REALLY want it to be genuine, but a quick apology doesn’t prove to us that someone what put the amount of time OR effort into changing from what they’ve done!
Serena, luckily, has made larger strides than just apologizing — she even went and talked with the victim personally! THAT’s how you start regaining trust!
So, in this case, we really do think Serena’s apology is on the up and up!
