Pharrell, Will.i.am (or his hologram) will see you in court!
That’s right, Will.i.am is going mental legal over the fact that Pharrell has launched a new creative brand called “i am OTHER,” which Will.i.am claims is too close and “confusingly similar” to the phrase “I AM,” which he claims he trademarked.
In response, Pharrell had this to say:
“I am disappointed that Will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me. I am someone who likes to talk things out and, in fact, I attempted to do just that on many occasions. I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that Will’s trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I do.”
We hope the two artists can settle this amicably, but if it does go to court, looks like Aaron Sorkin might have a followup to The Social Network!
UPDATE: Will responded to Pharell’s statement of disappointment, saying there never was any lawsuit.
