The world of soccer was stunned by the news that Ecuador striker Christian Benitez suddenly passed away without warning. He was in the best shape of his life, making great moves in soccer for his own game and his bank account.
Now, we know why he died — just not what caused it to happen. According to his Qatari club El Jaish, Christian died of heart failure.
But if he was in the greatest shape, doesn’t everything everyone has ever told you about staying in shape say that this isn’t possible? We might never know, but we do know that immediately prior to his cardiorespiratory arrest, he had been rushed to the hospital with sharp stomach pains.
Regardless of the reason, it’s sad either way. He was a great striker, and even helped the former American club win the Mexican championship last season — and he was a father of three.
Our hearts go out to his friends, family, and fans.
