Hateful behavior is always an ugly thing but it especially hurts our hearts when kids are involved.
Mariah Carey recalled this week a time when she was on the receiving end of a racist attack while riding home on the school bus, saying a fellow student spit on her because of the color of her skin!
What reminded Mariah of the incident was a scene from her upcoming movie The Butler, in which a white woman spits on a black college student during the Woolworth’s Lunch Counter sit-in. At a news conference this week, Carey told reporters:
“That actually happened to me. I know people would be in shock and not really want to believe or accept that, but it did. That right there, that was almost the deepest thing to me in the movie because I know what she went through.”
That is downright HORRIBLE!
Mariah’s mom is white and her father is African American and Venezuelan. Growing up in Long Island, Mimi had to deal with a lot of prejudice from people in her youth, including her maternal grandmother, who Mariah has claimed in the past disowned her mother for marrying a man of color!
No wonder Mariah is so strong today! Look at all she’s had to overcome!
We are SO looking forward to seeing The Butler which will feature Mariah Carey in perhaps her most challenging acting role yet – playing a field slave. The movie also stars Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker.
