11-year-old Sarah Murnaghan is back home after almost six months in the hospital and two months after her controversial two double lung transplants this past June.
The little girl has been fighting severe cystic fibrosis, and was on a waiting list to receive pediatric lungs which are a long shot to ever be available. Her mother Janet Murnaghan went to the media and eventually whipped enough people into a frenzy until a judge allowed Sarah to receive a lung transplant from the adult waiting list.
And although some believe it’s unfair Sarah was able to become an exception to the rule that children have to be at least twelve years old to receive an adult lung, Sarah’s mother isn’t worried about that.
She’s only happy her little girl has a fighting chance now to survive.
Here’s what her mom wrote recently on Facebook:
“I am so thankful to GOD, Sarah’s donors, and the hundreds of thousands of you who stood beside us and fought for Sarah. We entered CHOP on Feb 19, more than six months ago. I never could have imagined the journey that lay in front of us. If you are struggling with something bigger than you, I can say two things for sure; God is GREAT and so is the human spirit. There are so many beautiful people in the world! Thank you!!!!”

This is the first time in a long time that Sarah has been able to live at home, and her family will provide her with part time nurses and home schooling to help the little girl ease into her new life.
We’re so happy that Sarah is back home with a new working pair of lungs, and we wish her and her family the best on their road to recovery!
