Dogs can be very sensitive to the emotions and energy of those around them.
But how do they pick up on these cues??
They can tell how other dogs are feeling by their tail wags!
Well… no duh!
But wait, not just whether it’s wagging or not├óΓé¼┬ª but the type of wag!
Apparently, when a dog wags their tail to the left, it means negative, anxious emotions. When a dog wags to the right, it means positive and happy ones!
That’s so crazy! We had no idea.
So, are doings doing this on purpose??
A co-author of the study looking at dogs and tail wagging, said:

“The emotions are associated presumably with activation of either the right or left side of brain. This is something that could be explained in quite a mechanistic way. It├óΓé¼Γäós simply a byproduct of the asymmetry of the brain.”

Still, dogs can pick up on these cues because in their study, they found that when dogs saw videos of other dogs wagging their tails to the left, they got anxious!
When those same dogs saw a vid of a dog wagging their tail to the right… they remained calm!!
That’s so ahamayzing, we’re totes gonna watch out for this from now on!
