This is super awkward for SO many reasons!
Armani was called out a few months ago by Naomi Campbell and Iman for showing racism on the runway, and while that seems to have improved since then, they just made a HUGE social media error that has people angry all over again!
On Monday, someone in charge of the fashion label’s Instagram account posted a seemingly innocent picture of Alfre Woodard wearing a Giorgio Armani dress.
However, the caption mis-labeled the African American female actress as an African American male actor Idris Elba…whaaaaa???
This is what the caption said:
“Idris Elba posing in a gorgeous Giorgio @armani dress at the 5th Annual Governors Awards.”
While this may have been a simple human error, it couldn’t have come at worse timing.
The racial profiling incident at Barneys is currently being dealt with by none other than Jay Z himself, and Naomi’s Diversity Coalition is still fighting for more diversity throughout the fashion world.
The inciting image on Armani’s Instagram account has already been deleted, but not after a plethora of angry followers took a screen capture of the post.
Yikes!!
See the image above, and see a close up of the caption (with readers’ comments) below:
