Flea Was Faking It! The Red Hot Chili Peppers Bass Player Explains Why They Weren’t Really Playing At The Super Bowl!

The thing about playing an electric guitar is you need electricity in order to play it!
But there were NO wires coming out of any of the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s instruments during their Super Bowl Halftime Show with Bruno Mars on Sunday!
After all the accusations from fans saying they were faking it, bass player Flea is ready to admit that they were indeed just playing air guitar up there!
He posted an explanation though as to WHY the band didn’t plug in for their big performance.
He’s blaming the NFL! Apparently it was the league that wanted the band to pre-record their musical track and only have Anthony singing live!
In a wordy message on RHCP’s web site, he explained:

“The Red Hot Chili Peppers stance on any sort of miming has been that we will absolutely not do it. So, when this Super Bowl gig concept came up, there was a lot of confusion amongst us as whether or not we should do it, but we eventually decided, it was a surreal-like, once in a life time crazy thing to do and we would just have fun and do it. We had given this a lot of thought before agreeing to do it, and besides many a long conversation amongst ourselves, I spoke with many musician friends for whom I have the utmost respect, and they all said they would do it if asked, that it was a wild trippy thing to do, what the hell. Plus, we the RHCP all love football too and that played a big part in our decision. We decided that, with Anthony singing live, that we could still bring the spirit and freedom of what we do into the performance, and of course we played every note in the recording specially for the gig. I met and spoke with Bruno, who was a beautiful dude, a real talented musician, and we worked out something that seemed like it would be fun.├óΓé¼┬¥

So wait…
If the RHCP weren’t playing because the NFL doesn’t do live Super Bowl Halftime shows, then has every performance we’ve ever seen in the middle of the big game been a hoax?!?
The Rolling Stones?!
Beyoncé?!
Et tu Bruce Springsteen?!
We forgive Flea and the boys for feigning a live show but we’re still not so convinced by the whole “in case something goes wrong” argument!
Singers sing. Rock stars rock. Musicians PLAY music!
Using live TV as a cop out to con the American public into thinking you’re actually playing when you’re really not is lame!
LAAAAAAAME!
We hope the NFL decides that next year’s Super Bowl Show will be 100% genuine start to finish!
A better game wouldn’t hurt either…
