Has Leonardo DiCaprio finally gotten the Oscar he so truly deserves?!
Well, not so fast, Internet Explorers!
On Monday night, CNN did a segment on how the Academy Award trophies are made, and they made the mistake of showing The Wolf of Wall Street actor’s golden engraved nameplate.
Just after the segment aired, the internet went WILD!
What else were we supposed to think after seeing that golden goodness live on television?!

But you know what they say, if it’s too good to be true, then it probably is.
Unfortunately, as much as we all want that nameplate to be a true spoiler, that isn’t the case here. In fact, the final voting for the Academy Awards doesn’t close until February 25th!
Such a bummer!
If you’re still looking for an explanation as to why there was already a nameplate done up for the actor, let’s turn to the Oscars for this answer!
In a press release from 2010, they said:
In preparation for the night, the Academy will create 197 nameplates, one for each 2009 nominee in every category. The engraving will include the nominee’s name, category, film title and year. After the winners have been announced, the unused nameplates will be recycled.
So there you have it, just to be prepared!
Leonardo isn’t a winner YET, but there’s always that possibility he will be one come Oscar Sunday!
Besides, he does have twice the chance of winning!
