Meanwhile, at HGTV…
It probably wouldn’t shock you to learn that a network catering to lovers of homes and gardens has tons of viewers who also support LGBT equality.
What might shock you, however, is how close the network came to airing a new TV show that stars the twin sons of an infamous bigot!
Flip It Forward, starring David and Jason Benham, was scheduled to premiere in October, but now that’s not happening. HGTV has decided “not to move forward” with the show.
The network has kept their reasons close to the chest, but many think they’re canceling the show because of the controversy that arose when viewers found out that the twins’ father, Flip Benham, was an evangelical minister and staunch advocate against same-sex marriage and LGBT rights.
Boom! Equal rights 1, intolerance 0.
While the U.S. Constitution obvs protects Flip’s legal right to spout out his wacky fundamentalist views at the top of his lungs, it doesn’t ensure that he’ll have a job waiting for him afterward!
Nor should it! Bigotry has no place in our homes and gardens!! Kudos to HGTV for doing what’s right!
