Katniss would approve.
Thailand’s military, that recently staged a coup against and overthrew the democratic government on May 22nd, are now trying to control a novel (literally) type of protest of the coup.
Since this weekend, the three-fingered salute from The Hunger Games has been used to resist the change in regime.
In response, military rulers are reportedly monitoring this new form of demonstration, and have vowed to arrest large groups of protestors who refuse to lower their arms.
Wow, sounds like there is a lot of freedom of speech in this new government, huh?! Remind you of anyplace? We don’t know…like Panem!
Thailand has also banned criticism of the junta by blocking access to hundreds of websites, and shutting down politically affiliated TV stations.
Did they think President Snow was the protagonist of the Hunger Games?!
Now, 6,000 soldiers are in the capitol of Bangkok in order to deal with protestors. We’ll see how this situation continues! If hover crafts are called in, or the government starts a state sponsored gladiatorial match with kids, we’d like to think the UN would get involved.
