Beautiful: Demi Lovato Makes A Tear Worthy Speech About Mental Illness At The 2014 Jed Foundation Annual Gala!

demi lovato gives stirring speech on mental illness
She’s been a busy lady in New York! And she’s showing no signs of slowing down!
Demi Lovato recently made a moving speech on Thursday at The Jed Foundation‘s 13th Annual Gala event called The Brightest Night 2014.
The singer, who has been open about her struggles with mental illness, and who was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2010, was SO inspiring throughout the whole event which was held at the River Pavillion inside the Jacob Javitz Center.
In fact, this is something everyone should listen to.
Demi presented the Jerry Greenspan Student Voice of Mental Health Award to honoree Margaret Kramer – that award is presented to students who have raised awareness about mental health.
And while Demi’s fashionable style was on serious display as well – including some lovely Roberto Cavalli items – it was her speech that had us in tears!
Here is part of what she said:

“I├óΓé¼Γäóve gone through some dark times, but I├óΓé¼Γäóm proud to say that today I am living proof that someone can live, love, and thrive WITH mental illness if they get connected with professional resources and accept support as soon as possible…When I finally got diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it was a relief in so many ways. It helped me to start to make sense with my extreme depression, bipolar depression, and all of the harmful things I was doing to cope. I had low periods that were so emotionally draining that I couldn├óΓé¼Γäót even find the strength to crawl out of bed. There were times that I was honored for things, or interviews where I pretended to be happy but I was loaded on drugs. The symptoms for bipolar depression aren├óΓé¼Γäót pretty and they certainly are not fun, but for me the guilt was probably the worst of all. Fans would thank me for being such a strong role model and I was devastated. I felt anything but strong. I felt like I was living a double life. And that guilt only worsened the negative feelings that I already had.├óΓé¼┬¥

Demi ended the ah-mazing speech on a super positive note, and even threw in a hilarious joke towards the end – so it wasn’t like everything was serious.
But most of it was and that is what we love about Demi Lovato. She isn’t afraid to get serious on the world, and that is what makes her one of the most game-changing artists around!
Although we can’t see her, take a listen to Demi’s speech in the video (below) !!!
