When you have 18 brothers and sisters, it can be pretty darn difficult to stand out! However, 19 Kids And Counting‘s Jessa Duggar has gotten a LOT of attention due to her engagement to Ben Seewald!
Unfortunately, she’s now making headlines for a not-so-great reason!
The controversy stems from a photo Ben posted on his Facebook page showing Jessa holding a HUGE rifle with the caption:
“My AWESOME girlfriend. #DontmesswithJessa”
Commenters were immediately split on the photo, with some followers asking why she would ever need a gun so large while others argued she has every right to own a gun if she wants to!
The picture was originally posted last month, but with all of the recent shootings and gun-related violence, the picture has started catching a lot of people’s eyes lately!
Jessa’s father Jim Bob Duggar spoke out about his kids using guns, saying:
“We believe it is important for children to learn safety about guns and knives. To learn how to use them properly and to learn not to use them to hurt others but to use them as a tool.”
On the surface, the picture seems harmless enough as there’s no actual proof that Jessa owns the gun. However, gun violence is a very hot issue right now and it simply doesn’t seem appropriate to make light of the situation by posing with a rifle for a Facebook photo!
Seriously, could the timing be any worse?
