Just a few hours before Kelly Rowland sneakily announced her pregnancy via Instagram, we chatted about a new Pepsi collaboration titled Beats Of The Beautiful Game and her song for the project, The Game!
The songstress is teaming up with artists like Janelle Mon├â┬íe and Rita Ora to produce an awesome visual anthem album, and she couldn’t be more thrilled about the experience:
“First of all, I am so excited that Pepsi has put together a really great idea with Beats Of The Beautiful Game and having all these different artists and the short films to go with it and collaborating with art. It├óΓé¼Γäós just seeing a moment, not just another album, but it actually being a creative, cool concept for everyone to grasp.”
The short film she speaks of is actually premiering TOMORROW, but you can ch-ch-check out a sneak peek of Kelly recording The Game (above)!
Her video was directed by the iconic Spike Lee and written by hit maker Sia — and the singer could hardly stop gushing about how fortunate she was to work with them:
“I got a chance to collaborate with Spike Lee for my short film and Jake Troth, who is an amazing producer and writer and Sia, as well, for my song, The Game. I feel like I got the best folks to work with! It├óΓé¼Γäós a really great project and inspiring and encouraging, as well. I like that there├óΓé¼Γäós a message.”

On what meaning she wanted to put behind her song, The Game:
‘I wanted it to feel strong. I think that it├óΓé¼Γäós about reaching your own potential in whatever it is that you do in your everyday life. Whether it├óΓé¼Γäós journalism or shooting a video, whatever you├óΓé¼Γäóre doing in life. It├óΓé¼Γäós the play. We use it in the words ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ my favorite lyric in the whole song is, ‘make your play, make it count today.’ Whatever it is that you do on an everyday basis, don├óΓé¼Γäót just do it to do it├óΓé¼┬ª have a reason behind it. Stand for something!”
On what songs empower Kelly and give her a boost of joy:
“Happy! It├óΓé¼Γäós definitely Happy. It’s so beautiful that everybody gravitated towards that song. I think that everybody wants a piece of happiness a day. I think we all deserve a piece of it and when we stop to reflect on those things that make us happy or we have a song to remind us, it just makes it that much better! I love when music does that.”
