On Thursday, Django Unchained star Daniele Watts was cuffed and detained by police apparently for showing some PDA with her man, celebrity chef Brian James Lucas.
After the couple posted photos and accounts of the incident on social media (see the video ABOVE), the LAPD’s own Facebook page was understandably inundated with irate comments.
The LAPD first responded to inquiries by saying that because no arrest had taken place, they had no record of the incident.
That obviously is not good enough. You can’t detain someone, cuff someone, cut their wrist, then realize you’re mistaken and pretend it didn’t happen.
Apparently they finally got that message, because on Sunday they released the following statement:
“On Thursday September 11, 2014, around 3:01 p.m., patrol officers from North Hollywood Division along with a patrol sergeant responded to a radio call of indecent exposure in the 11900 block of Ventura Boulevard. The citizen who called the police to complain told the 9-1-1 operator that a male and a female were involved in indecent exposure inside a Silver Mercedes with the vehicle door open.
The responding sergeant and police officers located two individuals that matched the description of the suspects, and they were briefly detained. Upon further investigation it was determined that no crime had been committed. Ms. Watts and her companion were subsequently released.
An internal complaint investigation has been initiated regarding this matter.”
We don’t know what justice will come of this investigation, but we doubt anything could undo the damage these police have done to the hearts of El Lay’s citizens.
It’s just so appalling.
