Olympic Host Cities Now Have To Sign New Anti-Discrimination Clause As Part Of Contract! Finally!

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) sure took their sweet time protecting the rights of their LGBT athletes.
But we guess after the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, it was time to take a stand.
Russia’s anti-gay “propaganda” law must’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back. Glad it got the IOC to put a special clause in the contract all Olympic host cities must sign.

The anti-discrimination clause was added after almost 80,000 member of the advocacy group All Out called for the IOC to do something.
Andre Banks, co-founder and executive director of All Out, said:

“This is a significant step in ensuring the protection of both citizens and athletes around the world and sends a clear message to future host cities that human rights violations, including those against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, will not be tolerated. This is a particularly important moment for the world’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens who face discrimination and persecution not only in Russia but in countries all over the world. We will continue working to make sure this change is powerfully enforced — these new rules must prevent a replay of Sochi.”

It’s seriously just so amazing that finally the world’s LGBT athletes will be more protected.
The Olympics are all about coming together and celebrating all different types of people and cultures, and now it’s truly, fully inclusive.
And that’s just too fab for words!
