Over the years, Morrissey has gained a bit of a reputation for his outspokenness and his sometimes unorthodox behavior, so when he canceled a string of tour dates earlier this year some assumed he was simply acting out.
However, the iconic singer of The Smiths recently revealed that he has been battling cancer for the past year and a half.

While Morrissey didn’t specify what form of cancer he was diagnosed with, he did say that he has been receiving treatments while also addressing the possibility of death in the most endearingly “Morrissey” way possible:
“They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever. If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t. Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do. I’m not going to worry about that, I’ll rest when I’m dead.”
The 55-year-old is no stranger to health issues, as he has been sidelined by bleeding ulcers, pneumonia, food poisoning, and a respiratory infection all in the past two years alone.
Luckily, it seems as thought Morrissey is in fairly good spirits despite the diagnosis, and hopefully he’s able to make a full recovery so he can continue to make the music and art we have all come to know and love.
