We have an idea of what went wrong, but we may never know the full story!
Joan Rivers tragically passed away this past September 4th, and although autopsies are usually performed to determine the exact cause of death – a decision was made NOT to have one performed on Joan’s body!
A person from the NYC Medical Examiner says that happened because Joan’s daughter Melissa Rivers was deep in mourning that she decided not to have one done.
And New York law says that wish will be honored for families as long as there’s no “evidence of criminality” involved in the person’s death.
The cause of death has since been ruled that Joan died from a lack of oxygen which caused extended damage to her brain. The procedure is believed to have caused this “complication” and not the drug Propofol.

Without an autopsy there isn’t really a way to pinpoint what happened to Joan Rivers, but we totally understand why Melissa couldn’t even think about an autopsy after her beloved mother died.
And although this means we may never know what exactly caused Joan’s death, that doesn’t mean the investigation where the procedure took place at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic won’t provide some definitive answers.
We’re hopeful that investigation can shed some light on what happened to this beloved woman who at least leaves behind one magnificent legacy to forever keep her name in the history books.
