Uh oh! Looks like some people weren’t so happy with the R rating 50 Shades of Grey received!
According to Morality in Media, who are basically an anti-pornography vigilante group, the film starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson is NOT worthy of the rating it got!
However, the problem MiM has isn’t with the R it received, their problem lies with the wording of the rating.

The MPAA wrote that the movie earned an R because of:

“the strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity.”

Apparently the term “unusual behavior” doesn’t live up to their own expectations of a warning.
Their response was:

“[The rating] severely undermines the violent themes in the film and does not adequately inform parents and patrons of the film’s content.
What the term ├óΓé¼╦£unusual’ does not account for is the coercion, sexual violence, female inequality, and BDSM themes from which the entire Fifty Shades plot is based. Such a vague evaluation puts viewers at risk, sending the message that humiliation is pleasurable and that torture should be sexually gratifying.
We’d like to change the MPAA rating for Fifty Shades of Grey to read: ├óΓé¼╦£Promotes torture as sexually gratifying, graphic nudity, encourages stalking and abuse of power, promotes female inequality, glamorizes and legitimizes violence against women.'”

Well, that’s certainly very, erm, judge-y? To say the least…
Sure, Fifty Shades may not be the most accurate representation of the BDSM culture, (seeing as Jamie Dornan told the world most submissives are actually men) but we don’t think it “glamorizes violence against women.”
Besides, they have a safe word in the film and everything!
If that’s what you’re into, then that’s what you’re into, but we think Morality in Media is turning the BDSM culture into something that it’s not.
What do YOU think, Perezcious readers? Do you agree or disagree with what Morality in Media is saying?
