Some people might think Serena Williams is an odd choice for a Vogue cover, but they’re probably not familiar with Anna Wintour‘s love of athletes, especially tennis players!

In fact, given Serena’s passion for fashion in addition to her superstar status as a tennis pro, she should’ve gotten a solo cover much sooner!
This is the 33-year-old’s second appearance on the front of the fashion bible — she previously shared the May 2012 cover with Ryan Lochte and Hope Solo!
Dressed in a slate blue Rag & Bone sheath dress, the champ (19 Grand Slams, baby!) looks confident and fierce with minimal makeup and glossy hair fanning out behind her like a lion’s mane.
The best part is that her hair completely takes over the masthead so “Vogue” is barely visible, and your attention goes straight to the “Queen Serena” line!
The worst part is that there’s only one picture of her in the spread.
We know Annie Leibovitz took enough photos to give Serena a multi-page editorial, so we’re not sure why she only gets one shot to accompany her own cover story. Lame.
Serena doesn’t seem bothered by that, though — she posted a pic of herself on Instagram reading her own issue!
