Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens shattered box office records on Friday, achieving the highest single-day opening of any move… EVER!

According to box office earnings posted by Disney, the movie was a HUGE hit at the theaters this weekend, taking in $57 million in their late Thursday night screenings and a total of $120.5 million through Friday.
WOW!
Those numbers far surpass the previous record holder for biggest one-day opening, which ad been Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, that opened at $91.1 million.
This also makes Episode VII the first film to surpass $100 million in its opening day in theaters, AND this is already the largest opening ever of any movie that opened in December.

The numbers are right on track with box office estimates, too; the J.J. Abrams flick should hit about $220 million total across the opening weekend.
How big is that? Well, Jurassic World is the third-highest grossing movie of all-time, and it opened with $208 million through its opening weekend.
