
While Don Rickles had been cracking people up for decades, there’s a whole generation who will only know the late comedy legend from one role: Mr. Potato Head.
In all three of the Toy Story films, the standup brought his trademark lovable crank style to the child’s toy, whose previous personality was entirely determined by how much you angled the detachable eyebrows.

So on Friday, Disney/Pixar paid tribute to their fallen player on Twitter with a heartbreaking new image, along with a personal note from Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter:

Don’s Toy Story costars also shared their condolences. Tom Hanks wrote:

No word yet whether Mr. Potato Head will be retired.
After Jim Varney‘s death in 2000, the role of Slinky Dog continued on with the similarly raspy-voiced Blake Clark. But it may be impossible to imitate Rickles.
He was truly one of a kind.
