Miss California, Carrie Prejean, spoke to Access Hollywood today, Monday, about the major drama surrounding her answer to our gay marriage question.
In her own words, Miss California now says:
├óΓé¼┼ôI feel like I won. I feel like I├óΓé¼Γäóm the winner. I really do,├óΓé¼┬¥ noting that on Monday, she had 1,000 messages on Facebook and 2,000 friend requests. She adds that her answer “did cost me my crown. I wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that├óΓé¼Γäós all I can do. It is a very touchy subject and he [Perez] is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would├óΓé¼Γäóve wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”
Prejean’s sister, however feels differently about gay marriage:
“My [heterosexual] sister is a second lieutenant in the Air Force and she is a gay rights activis. She supports gay people, she supports gay marriage. My beliefs have nothing to do with my sister or my mom, or whatever. She was just in my hotel room and she said, ├óΓé¼╦£Sis, I├óΓé¼Γäóm not offended by anything that you said. We have two different opinions and I love you because of it. I love you because you stood up for what was right, and it├óΓé¼Γäós not a matter of being gay or not gay, it├óΓé¼Γäós a matter of you competing for Miss USA and getting a question and answering it to the best of your ability. [My sister] has her own views. She├óΓé¼Γäós a 22-year-old woman who├óΓé¼Γäós in the Air Force who├óΓé¼Γäós extremely educated. She debates with my dad all the time about it. That├óΓé¼Γäós what├óΓé¼Γäós so great about being an American ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ we├óΓé¼Γäóre able to have our own opinions.├óΓé¼┬¥
As for Carrie’s love life, she is keeping mum on her on/off relationship with Michael Phelps:
├óΓé¼┼ôHe is a great man,├óΓé¼┬¥ she says, but, adding, “We can talk about that a different day.├óΓé¼┬¥
