Bright Star director Jane Campion has filed a formal sexual harassment complaint after attending the India International Women’s Film Festival.
Campion claims that the husband of the festival organizer harassed her and other women including “making lewd advances.” The man in question, Bhaskar Deb, is denying the accusations stating, “I haven’t even met Campion. She came on the 15th and disappeared to Jaipur on the 16th.”
But Pakistani director Ayesha Arif Khan has also filed a complaint citing that she was “repeatedly mauled by a drunken Bhaskar and contantly offered alcohol.” The matter is currently under investigation according to the Minister of State for Urban Development.
Campion’s complain reads in part:
“I am not the only filmmaker to be badly treated. Many other women experienced rude and even lewd advances from the husband of the festival director and all felt shocked and angry that such a brazen fraud cold be allowed to proceed unimpeded by the Indian authorities.”
Awful! We hope the matter is resolved soon because that kind of behavior is absolutely atrocious and completely unacceptable!
