What is… the best news we’ll hear all day??

Alex Trebek is BACK, y’all! The beloved longtime host of Jeopardy! will officially be back for the show’s 36th season. On Thursday, the hit game show revealed Alex is officially done with chemotherapy after his cancer diagnosis, and he’ll be back on set when the upcoming season begins on September 9!

As you’ll recall, not even six months ago, Trebek announced he’d been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer, and informed fans he’d have to undergo an aggressive chemotherapy schedule to fight it. Things have apparently gone well, though, because in a new video, the 79-year-old game show host is seen on screen welcoming fans to the 36th season of the show with a smile!

In the video, posted to Jeopardy!‘s YouTube page, Trebek — who has hosted the iconic show since 1984 — updates fans, saying:

“I’ve gone through a lot of chemotherapy and thankfully that is now over. I’m on the mend, and that’s all that I can hope for right now … We have some exciting things coming up and I can’t wait to share them with you all. It’s going to be a good year.”

Amen to that!!!

So great!!! We are SO excited for the new season, but especially with Trebek at the helm, and hopefully healthy once again!!

As you’ll recall, back in May, the longtime TV host sat down with GMA journalist Robin Roberts to discuss his diagnosis and treatment. The Canadian host revealed at the time how things were already on the mend, though he was still very emotional about the serious ordeal (below):

“My oncologist tells me I’m doing well even though I don’t always feel it. I’ve had kidney stones, I’ve had ruptured discs, so I’m used to dealing with pain. But what I’m not used to dealing with is the surges that come on suddenly of deep, deep sadness and it brings tears to my eye. I’ve discovered in this whole episode, ladies and gentlemen, that I’m a bit of a wuss. My platelets, my blood counts are steady. My weight is steady. … The cancer indicators, those are coming down. I’ve got another chemo next week and we’ll do a review and see where things stand.”

Obviously, in the months since then, his prognosis has improved so much that the game show icon can return to the fold on TV! And we’re so glad for it, too!

Welcome back, Alex! We can’t wait for September 9!!!
