Contestant La’Porsha Renae brought down the house on American Idol Thursday night with an incredible rendition of Mary J. Blige‘s No More Drama.
And the performance had extra special meaning for both the competitor AND judge Jennifer Lopez.

In a video package that ran before her live performance, La’Porsha revealed that she had been in an abusive relationship that she managed to end shortly before beginning on Idol.
Then, when she came out with her performance this week, the emotions ran over the entire room.

Just… wow.
La’Porsha spoke to the media after her performance, too, saying:
“It was something that needed to happen. I got out of that bad relationship in April and came straight into American Idol so I didn’t have time to heal. Having America pick this song for me forced me to face the feelings I had been running from. That’s why I got so emotional.”
Such an incredible and meaningful performance.
The other song of the night was our boy Dalton Rappatoni‘s rock fusion version of Simon & Garfunkel‘s Sound of Silence. No tears, but we dare you not to get chills!
