The music industry is having to say goodbye to Angie Stone. The singer has passed away at the age of 63.
According to TMZ, her representative, Deborah R. Champagne, confirmed the news on Saturday and revealed what happened. The spokesperson explained that Angie had left a performance at the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association Grand Marshal’s Ball in Montgomery, Alabama, to head to the CIAA basketball tournament in Baltimore early that morning. But on the way to the next gig with her crew and backup singers, they got into a car accident on Interstate 65. Deborah said Angie was the only fatality.

So, so sad. Champagne expressed that the soul artist’s family and friends are devastated now. Her daughter, Ladi Diamond, has addressed the tragedy on Facebook, saying:
“My mommy is gone.”
Our hearts break for this family. What an awful situation. Angie was taken so soon. For those who don’t know, the musician rose to fame as a member of the all-female group The Sequence in 1979. She started her own solo career in the late ‘90s, dropping her debut album, Black Diamond. Two years later, she released Wish I Didn’t Miss You, which became one of her most popular tracks. Listen (below):
She was a successful songwriter, working with stars like Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz. Last year, she was inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. In addition to a career in music, Angie appeared in movies such as The Hot Chick, The Fighting Temptations, and Ride Along. She also was on reality series, including Celebrity Fit Club and R&B Divas: Atlanta.
Angie did a lot over the years when it came to her career, and she wasn’t done yet! One week before her death, she posted a video on Instagram to promote her performance this weekend — and tease upcoming projects:
“We’re booking tours and a lot of stuff is going on that I just don’t want to let out of the bag just yet, but you can see there is a big grin on my face.”
The performer had big plans to do more television, movies, and tours, adding:
“There is a lot of projects … we’re getting back in the mix.”
Sadly, she won’t get to see these through. Watch one of her final posts (below):
Our hearts go out to her family. Rest in peace, Angie…
