Ariana Grande 'Can't Believe' How Much She Was Being Sexualized On Nickelodeon After Watching Quiet On Set

Ariana Grande Says She Didn’t ‘Remember’ How Much She Was Sexualized On Nickelodeon Before Watching Quiet On Set

Ariana Grande apparently blocked out a LOT from her Nickelodeon days.

Earlier this year, the release of shocking docuseries Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV put a horrible spotlight on former Nick showrunner Dan Schneider amid. SO many horrifying revelations of misconduct came out of the five-part series, including some of the things Ariana was forced to do on the set of Victorious and Sam & Cat. But you may be surprised to hear that she was just as shocked as anyone else!

While speaking with Vanity Fair for their latest cover story on Monday, the Wicked star reflected on the innuendos written into the scripts she was given as a teen… Some of which blatantly sexualized her. You can see a few shocking examples (below):

The now-31-year-old told the outlet:

“You don’t remember some of it, and then it’s thrown into this compilation in this thing, and you’re like, ‘Wait, that happened? I can’t believe that!’”

We wonder what she can’t remember and what just didn’t register. After all, below a certain age, plenty of kids wouldn’t get the more sexual double meanings behind some scenes. Hmm.

Either way it must have been such a rude awakening all these years later! We can’t even begin to imagine what she felt looking back on it all now as an adult… Just awful!

Back in June, the 7 Rings singer spoke in depth about being “upset” after watching the eye-opening doc. We guess we understand a bit more why now. She said on Penn Badgley‘s Podcrushed podcast at the time:

“Looking back on some of the clips, I’m like, ‘Damn, really? Oh, s**t’ … And the things that weren’t approved for the network were snuck onto, like, our website or whatever. I guess I’m upset, yeah.”

But moving forward, the Imperfect For You singer says now she just wants the industry to become a “safer” place for young talent. She told VF:

“The most important thing we can do is focus on making the working environment safer for all performers and artists — even musicians.”

And part of how she feels we can do so is by making therapy more easily accessible so these kids don’t have to feel like they have no one to turn to:

“If you’re going to sign to a major label and your life’s going to change the way that mine did, there should be therapy in the contract. You should have support on the mental side because it’s not normal. Nothing can really prepare you for what comes with this amount of visibility.”

It’s people like her who have been through it all that can really help spearhead change, so we’re glad she’s speaking up!
