California is still in limbo over their ruling to ban same-sex marriages, but until they figure it out, California’s Attorney General has asked to allow gay marriages to continue.
Attorney General Kamala Harris wrote a strong and inspiring letter to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after the California Supreme Court insisted this week that it needs the rest of the year to formally resolve their position on Prop 8.
In her letter, Attorney General Kamala Harris implored the appeals committee to consider the fact that the ban was already deemed unconstitutional by a trail judge and while it is under consideration at a higher level, keeping Prop 8 in effect violates the civil rights of gay Californians. She added:
“The public interest weighs heavily against the government sanctioning such discrimination by permitting it to continue.”
Well said!
We’re so proud to have such well-spoken, open-minded and free-thinking person on our side!
With this kind of proactive attack on Prop 8 and Obama’s stance Defense of Marriage Act, we are well on our way in getting equality for all!
