A baby gorilla named Gladys is being raised temporarily by human parents!
Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden believe Gladys will eventually be able to live with fellow gorillas, but in the meantime – they’ve ordered custom faux gorilla vests, so they can nurse little Gladys
Here’s what a Zoo person said:
“Vests are incredibly important to Gladys’ gorilla-fication. The day a baby gorilla is born they can pretty much hold on to mom without any support. It is very important that Gladys has some good hand holds and when she’s on these vests, she sticks to them like Velcro. She’s very comfortable on them and feels much more secure in her ability to hang on like a gorilla should.”
Zoo specialists believe Gladys will be ready for an adoptive mom in a couple of mom, and there are a number of options at this point.
Gladys was moved there in the first place after her natural mother in Texas showed little maternal instinct.
The Cincinnati Zoo is one of the best in the world at raising baby gorillas!
