Beauty And The Beast Director: Too Much Has Been Made Over Film's Gay Moment, 'Why Is It A Big Deal?'

no title
Whether it was for press before release, or whether Bill Condon really just felt like sharing a teaser, everybody is talking about the live-action Beauty And The Beast‘s “exclusively gay moment” he teased last week.
It’s gone so viral, in fact, that Russia is considering issuing a nationwide ban on the movie to keep out gay propaganda.

But now, Condon, the film’s director, is trying to right the ship about the “gay moment” in a new interview with ScreenCrush.
Speaking about the character, LeFou (played by Josh Gad) that is going to come out of the closet and give Disney its first openly gay character, Condon put the “gay moment” in relative terms, saying:

“Oh God. Can I just tell you? It’s all been overblown. Because it’s just this, it’s part of just what we had fun with. You saw the movie, yeah? You know what I mean. I feel like the kind of thing has been, I wish it were ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ I love the way it plays pure when people don’t know and it comes as a nice surprise … Why is it a big deal?”

Agreed, especially regarding the part about how a gay character — in 2017 — shouldn’t be a big deal!
And yet now that a country is considering banning the movie, and the initial quote has sparked all kinds of reaction from viewers both positive and… not-so-positive… well, here we are.
What do U think, Perezcious readers?! Is it a big deal that there’s an “exclusively gay moment” in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast?!
