Ben Affleck is already working hard on the road to recovery.
As we reported on Sunday, the Gone Girl star appeared to be drunk in public after a Halloween party in West Hollywood on Saturday night. Ben then confirmed on Sunday afternoon and acknowledged “it was a slip” while talking to paparazzi outside ex-wife Jennifer Garner‘s home.

All this is news, of course, because the Pearl Harbor star has long been battling alcohol addiction, including several stints in rehab fighting the disease. And now, with his very public fall off the wagon over the weekend, perhaps yet another rehab stay may be warranted.
But before we get there, insiders are acknowledging how much of a positive step forward it was for the Good Will Hunting actor to even own up to his behavior, as he did outside Garner’s house the day after his night out.
One insider noted that while the 47-year-old “looked tired” in his rendezvous with the paparazzi at his ex’s home, he nevertheless did right by taking responsibility for what he’d done. The source said to People (below):
“You could tell that it wasn’t an easy thing for him, but Ben owned his mistake. He said it happens, that he slipped up but that it won’t happen again. It was a smart move because now the story is basically over.”
Is the story “basically over”??? Hmmm… not so sure about that part…
We do agree it was a smart, mature move to come clean and acknowledge the shortcoming. It’ll hopefully make it that much easier to fight the addiction moving forward, too!
Since the actor is clearly adult enough to own it like this, he can confront the underlying issues head on, and really make some long-term progress against the disease.

A separate source also chimed in about the slip-up, offering this conciliatory perspective to ET (below):
“Sobriety is difficult for anyone struggling with addiction. Ben has been honest about his recovery and takes it day by day. He never said he wouldn’t slip up.”
So there you have it — that kind of seems to be the narrative around Affleck’s boozy night out right now.
