Violet Affleck has officially stumped her parents — because they just can’t quite comprehend why she’s still hanging out with Jennifer Lopez’s family!
The oldest daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner surprised fans over the weekend when she appeared in a selfie with J.Lo’s sister Lynda Lopez. If you haven’t seen it, ch-ch-check it out (below):
Definitely unexpected considering the 18-year-old’s dad is currently divorcing the 53-year-old’s sister — but especially for her parents, apparently! We all know Violet has clung tight to her relationship with the On the Floor singer and her family — which is great, except… It’s really “confusing” for Ben and Jen. On Tuesday, an insider told DailyMail.com:
“Violet has a strong attachment to J.Lo and her family. It’s quite confusing to Ben and Jen [Garner] because they do not understand why Violet is so adamant on keeping her close.”
Hmmm… It’s almost like marrying someone, moving in with them, and telling the kids they’re all one big family now – only to separate from them two years later — might have an indelible impact on a young child in the mix!

Apparently it really is Violet’s lasting affection, too. According to the insider, she’s actually the one who arranged for Lynda to come visit her at Yale University:
“Violet said that she just reached out to her and said she wanted to come visit.”
That’s had to have been a hard pill for Ben to swallow when Violet told him about her plan! But wait, she apparently DIDN’T tell him, and the first time he saw the selfie was on the Internet! The source dished:
“The first time Ben saw this photo was online. He wasn’t aware that Lynda was visiting.”
Awkwarddd! But Ben’s a mature guy — and he apparently acknowledges that his daughter is also mature and an adult who can see whomever she wants… Just a little more privacy would have been preferred:
“But Violet is an adult, and she is allowed to do as she pleases and spend time with who she wants to. Ben and Jen feel Lynda and Violet could have spent time together and even taken a cute photo together without it going online for the world to see.”
We can understand that!
As for Violet, though, she apparently is just following in the footsteps her parents set by maintaining a friendly relationship post-split:
“It is unfortunate that her dad didn’t work things out with J.Lo, but it also didn’t work out with her him and her mom, and she would rather keep the peace than have any issues. Violet doesn’t want to lose that bond.”
