We already reported on how Benny Blanco popped the question to Selena Gomez earlier this month following a year of dating. And we’ve all taken a good look at that HUGE rock he put on her finger! The sparkler is estimated to be worth an eye-watering quarter of a million dollars, but the price and cut of the diamond aren’t the only special things about this ring. It’s time to take a closer look…

The producer teamed up with Katherine Theofilos Claster and Stephanie Theofilos of Abril Barrett to create a ring just as Rare as Selly herself. The gem is a marquise center stone in a cathedral setting with an oversized brilliant-cut eternity band, which Benny picked out. The jewelers say they’ve worked with him in the past and they have a great “synergy” — which was perfect for creating probably the most important piece of his life. Katherine told PageSix:
“We started the project earlier this year. Benny, a wonderful creative himself, had specific inspiration, including the center cut, the marquise… We worked closely with multiple approaches before our final ring. Benny had a very sharp idea of what he ultimately envisioned. We combined it with our Abril Barret sentiment to capture the essence of an heirloom piece with a modern hand.”
Earlier this year? He’s been wanting to propose for a while, then! Wow!
Perhaps taking inspiration from the singer’s hit Good For You, the jewelry expert confirmed “it was a marquise on day one” with the record producer. In the hit song, she sings about the cut:
“I’m on my marquise diamonds / I’m a marquise diamond / Could even make that Tiffany jealous”
Aww! Theofilos Claster went into detail about how incredible the ring is — if you couldn’t see it for yourself — and said it’s “timeless”:
“The cut itself is art; its lines, facets, elongated shape and spread allow light to dance through every angle of the stone. It is mesmerizing. Rare and unique, the marquise is the epitome of special — romantic, timeless, antique and modern. This is the ethos of Abril Barret.”
But perhaps the most stunning detail of all is the “special symbols” Benny insisted be put in the ring to celebrate Selena and his love for her:
“For this project, Benny was immediately drawn to the stone he ultimately chose. Much like love, in a room full of people, you are drawn to your soulmate. This stands true in the power of a diamond … [There are] a handful of special symbols folded into the design of the ring, [including the] intention of optimizing light.”
Optimizing light? Wow, he really did put thought into this thing! All in all, the jeweler says this is the perfect ring for the songwriter’s “forever girl” — and we agree! What a romantic story of creating something so personal.
