Dionne Warwick sets the record straight after an interview made it seem like she was shading Beyoncé.
On Wednesday, Essence published a piece where the 78-year-old legend spoke out about the current crop of musical artists.

However, when asked if today’s music has classics, the Do You Know the Way to San Jose singer laughed and said, firmly, “Not yet.” She added:
“I don’t know if 10 years from now, anybody can actually sing the songs of our babies today. That’s not, as you guys say, ‘throwing shade,’ it’s looking at it with reality.'”
When the magazine asked the songstress about Queen Bey, they wrote that “[Warwick was] not convinced that Bey’s a classic or iconic artist just yet.”
Dionne said, in her own words:
“I love her to death and can appreciate her talent. But that iconic status, it’s a long road [ahead].”
After her comments went viral, Warwick took to Twitter on Thursday to clarify that she did NOT shade Beyoncè! She wrote:
“What I said is in quotes. What @Essence said is not. It takes a long time to reach and achieve iconic status. That’s not to say that Beyoncé isn’t well on her way. She is a gifted performer. That was a reach from Essence.”
Case closed!
As we reported in April, Bey dropped her Netflix documentary — Homecoming — about her performance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
The film — which also featured husband JAY-Z, and children Blue Ivy, Sir, and Rumi — was described as an “intimate, in-depth look” of the concert, revealing “the emotional road from creative concept to a cultural movement.”
When the trailer dropped, social media users couldn’t contain their excitement! They wrote:
