Black Eyed Peas Star Taboo Opens Up On His Private Battle With Testicular Cancer

Wow, what a shock.
In an interview with People Magazine, Black Eyed Peas member Taboo revealed he was diagnosed with stage two testicular cancer in June of 2014 after visiting a hospital for abdominal and back pain.

What’s scary is, the star (whose real name is Jaime Luis Gomez) initially put off the doctor’s appointment due to his busy schedule, revealing:

“It all started with a pain in my back and abdomen. I was so busy working that I wasn’t worried about it, but I went to the emergency room to get checked out.”

Wow. We’re SO relieved Jaime didn’t wait a second longer to seek help.
Following the heartbreaking diagnosis, the rapper’s bandmate will.i.am got him in touch with an EXCELLENT doctor who immediately got him started on an “intense” and “aggressive” chemotherapy. The star also had to have his “mothership” removed.
Taboo went on to recall:

“The very next day I went into surgery to have the ├óΓé¼╦£mother ship’ removed. But my fight had just begun. My family and the group were all in shock, but will.i.am instantly reached out to a great doctor who helped me figure out a treatment plan. I was racing against the clock.”

Luckily for Mr. Gomez, he was able to keep his chin up during the harrowing ordeal:

“There were times that I wanted to give up, but I became inspired by sports figures who have gone through similar battles. I began channeling my energy into the thing that keeps me alive and spirited: music. I wanted to share my story and inspire others like those who had inspired me. I had chemo brain and kept fading in and out, but my team kept me focused because they knew how important it was.”

Now that the entertainer is officially cancer free, he has penned a song called Fight to inspire others with the disease to keep going no matter what:

“There are millions going through things like this, and I want to remind them that we don’t curl up into a ball when we have a trial or tribulation. We get up and fight.”

What an inspirational message! We’re glad Taboo turned a negative situation into a positive one.
