Not everyone was laughing along with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively!
During SNL‘s 50th anniversary special on Sunday night, the Deadpool star made a cameo to joke about his wife’s sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit against her It Ends With Us co-star/director Justin Baldoni. When asked how he was doing during a Q&A, he teased:
“Great. Why? What have you heard?”
The Gossip Girl star seemed shocked as she turned to look at him with her mouth wide open — before she quickly smiled and tried to stay composed through the rest of the bit.

This comes as reports have claimed the ongoing legal battle is taking a toll on the pair and their kids. So, naturally, not everyone was thrilled to see them making light of the scandal. Taking to X (Twitter) after the show, critics slammed the joke:
“How sweet of SNL to try and do damage control for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively—but it won’t work. #SNL50”
“Gross. So they’re supporting the bullies too”
“SNL has always been sooo problematic. Highlighting the abusers while making fun of the victims. Remember when they made a skit about the Try Guys & Ned [Fulmer]’s cheating? Yeah. Jokes at the expense of others. No integrity whatsoever”
“Whoever decided it was a good idea for Ryan Reynolds to do this needs to be fired. Why would he and Blake Lively think this was cute ? He isn’t funny and now that we know what a low life he is it just makes him even more cringe than he already was.”
“Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively have a huge set of balls. They went on #SNL50thAnniversary just to make fun of bullying Justin Baldoni right before they go to trial for bullying Justin Baldoni. Are they crazy?”
“The SNL 50th was a pretentious letdown, showing how out of touch they are with everyday Americans by serving up inside jokes for Hollywood’s elite. Proof? Unfunny skits and inviting Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds, who’ve been called out for their egos, instead of poking fun at them?”
To be fair, Ryan was def trying to poke fun at the drama — but it clearly didn’t come off the same way as it may have if the joke had come from someone else or during an actual skit. Having him say it just hits different.
For the record, not everyone was upset by the appearance. Others supported the pair, writing:
“The way people are pissed that Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds finally made a public appearance at #SNL50 & had fun is hilarious. Meanwhile, Justin Baldoni hired TMZ, Page Six & DailyMail to create fake headlines & take family pics at the airport & beach & ya’ll love it. Too bad.
”
“People mad over Blake and Ryan at SNL like did you expect them to stop living their lives? To cower at their home? The cancellation of them won’t work because cancel culture isn’t a thing in real life”
“I like Ryan Reynolds. I thought this was funny. I don’t know all the details of the Blake Lively ‘It Ends with Us’ sitch but I blame the PR people”
“One thing about Ryan Reynolds he will always take it on the chin”
“sorry but are people being wilfully obtuse about that ryan reynolds snl50 clip obviously he was joking and blake was in on the joke they don’t need attention-seeking tactics like justout flopdoni”
Some very different opinions… So, what do YOU think, Perezcious readers? Was this a good time to joke about the viral controversy — or was it the wrong move as they near a trial? Sound OFF (below)!
