There are so many weight classes in the sport of boxing, it can get a little confusing as to which is which. FitPerez reader Jim wants some class clarification, so he wrote boxer Alex Brenes for answers, asking:
Hi Alex,
What boxing class is heaviest — flyweight, bantam weight or feather weight?
According to Alex:
Hey Jim, it is exactly in that order — Flyweight, Bantam and Feather weight. But now with so many sanccioning bodies you may find “catch weigths.” For example: light flyweight between minimum weight and flyweight, super flyweight in between fly and bantam and super bantam in betwen bantam and feather weight. All these divisions go from 105 lbs. or 47.5 kilos (minimun weight) until 126 lbs. or 57.2 kilos. Some fighters go through several divisions in their career like I did. I started at 105 lbs. (47 kilos) in 1990 and finished at 142 lbs. (63.3 kilos) on 2009.
