The Boy Scouts of America always endeavor to Be Prepared, but it seems they were not quite ready for the public’s reaction to their ban on gay scouts and leaders.
As recently as July of last year the Scouts re-affirmed their No Gays Allowed policy, but the times they are a-changin’!
Many charities, businesses, and United Way groups have stopped donating to the Boy Scouts due to their discriminatory practices, causing the organization to rethink their ways.
The BSA’s board of directors are reportedly “actively considering” changing their national policy to allow individual charters to allow in homosexual members if they so choose. Spokesman Deron Smith says:
“The Boy Scouts would not, under any circumstances, dictate a position to units, members or parents.
Under this proposed policy, the BSA would not require any chartered organization to act in ways inconsistent with that organization├óΓé¼Γäós mission, principles or religious beliefs.”
Well, small steps we guess. But as for the charters who do decide to take a step forward?
Looks like they can add a new merit badge to their cute little sash – Tolerance!
