A gunman opened fire at the Blue Parrot night club during the BPM Music Festival and began exchanging fire with another person in the club. A few security members tried to stop the fight were caught in the crossfire.
The Attorney General of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Miguel Angel Pech, said during a press conference on Monday that the four male victims died from gunshot wounds; the woman appeared to have died from being stampeded over.
The director of police in the state of Quintana Roo, Rodolfo Del Angel, confirmed that five people were dead and said 15 more were injured as a result of “a disagreement between people inside” that sparked the shooting. The deceased include two Canadians, one Italian, and one Colombian.
Pech also said three people were detained for questioning after the incident, but it was not confirmed if they were involved with the shooting.
The BPM Festival released a statement early Monday morning on Facebook confirming three of the deceased were part of the BPM security team:

We can’t imagine going through such a horrifying event and our hearts go out to all of those affected by this horrific incident.
