The numbers are in, and it looks like Breaking Dawn isn’t going to be breaking the record of the boy who lived, but it’s on it’s way to besting it’s own franchise record.
The Twi-hards were out in force last night, flocking out to 3,521 theaters across the country to see the midnight showings of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. In one night, the movie cashed in $30.2 million, which is about on par with what Eclipse grossed on it’s first night in theaters. However, it was about $13 million short of toppling Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ Part 2 record ($43.5 million), but to be fair, BD was screening in fewer theaters and isn’t being shown in the 3D. But that’s neither here nor there.
Here is the real question: will the film beat it’s own opening day record? To date, New Moon holds the title of the most lucrative of the bunch, bringing in $72.7 million on its first day out. Eclipse fell short of the record with $68.5 million.
Will Breaking Dawn reign supreme? Or will we have to wait until the final installment to see the BIG money roll in???
