While Universal is enthusiastically brainstorming stories for the sequel, Kristin Wiig has said she’s not working on it.
But why?? Is it because she might think it stands strong as it is and doesn’t need to become a franchise? Or is it mostly business??
Inside whispers say the girls raised an eyebrow when their bonus checks came in with only $100,000 printed on them. And yeah, we can see that. We mean, that movie made BANK — a whopping $288 million!!
So thinking it might have something to do with the numbers it seems, Universal chief Ron Meyer reportedly took her out to dinner and dangled an eight figure check if she were to do the sequel.
Unfortunately for all of us, she declined.
But! Wiig or not, Universal is going forward, with Melissa McCarthy stepping up to play the lead. Like we said, they’re fishing for the right concept.
Producer Judd Apatow states:
The key is we have to come up with an idea that is as good or better than the first one. We don’t want to do it unless it can be great. I don’t think anyone has had the brain space to think about it yet. Hopefully that can begin this├óΓé¼┬»year.
But as soon as they catch it, production is gonna start faster than the projectile vomiting from the original!!
